How to Get to Yaguarón#
Yaguarón is a small town south-east of Asunción; most international travellers arrive via Silvio Pettirossi International Airport (ASU) and continue by road. Paraguay lacks a national passenger rail network, so buses and taxis provide the main public connections.
Silvio Pettirossi International Airport (ASU): Asunción’s airport is the main international gateway for Yaguarón (about 45-60 km; 50-75 minutes by road). From ASU you can take a taxi or pre-booked transfer to Yaguarón (approx. 50-90 minutes depending on traffic) or use buses via Asunción’s terminal.
Guarani International Airport (AGT): Ciudad del Este’s AGT is much farther (several hours by road) and is not a practical arrival point for Yaguarón unless you plan an overland detour through eastern Paraguay.
Train: Paraguay no longer has a regular passenger rail network for intercity travel; rail is not a practical option to reach Yaguarón.
Bus: Regular intercity buses depart from Asunción’s main bus terminal (Terminal de Ómnibus) toward Paraguarí and surrounding towns; you can catch a bus to the Paraguarí area and transfer to a local colectivo or taxi for the final 10-20 km to Yaguarón. Journey times from Asunción to Yaguarón are typically 1-1.5 hours; fares are low (small local-bus fares are cheap - expect modest local-currency amounts).
How to Get Around Yaguarón#
There is no national passenger rail service to Yaguarón - road travel is the only practical option. Intercity buses from Asunción plus a short local taxi or colectivo are the most common and cost-effective way to reach the town.
- Intercity bus (Low (local-currency fares)) - Buses from Asunción’s main terminal run toward Paraguarí and neighbouring towns; these are the usual public option to reach Yaguarón. Buses are inexpensive, comfortable on main routes, and drop passengers at regional hubs where you change to local services or taxis.
- Local colectivo / minibús (Very low) - From Paraguarí or nearby hubs local colectivos and minibuses cover short rural legs into towns like Yaguarón. They are cheap and frequent but can be crowded; schedules are informal, so allow time for connections.
- Taxi / Shared taxi (Moderate (depends on distance)) - Taxis and shared taxis are common for final-mile transfers and door-to-door trips; useful late at night or if you have luggage. Agree the fare before departure; longer transfers from Asunción will be substantially more expensive than local fares.
- Private transfer / rental car (€/USD equivalent (varies by provider)) - Renting a car or booking a private shuttle from Asunción offers the most direct and comfortable transfer to Yaguarón, useful if you plan to visit multiple rural sites. Roads are generally passable but signage outside major corridors can be limited.
- Motorbike / Scooter taxi (Very low) - In smaller Paraguayan towns motorcycle taxis or informal moto-taxis operate for very short hops and tight streets; they are quick but carry more risk than formal taxis. Use local judgment about safety and helmets.
- Walking - Yaguarón’s centre is compact and walkable for visiting the main plaza, church and shops; walking is the easiest way to explore the town once you’ve arrived.
