How to Get to Yakoruda#
Yakoruda is best accessed via Sofia (SOF) with a rail or bus to Blagoevgrad and then a regional bus to Yakoruda. The final leg is almost always by bus; expect total travel times of several hours from the capital.
Sofia Airport (SOF): Sofia is the nearest major international airport. From Sofia take a bus or train to Blagoevgrad (~1.5-2 hours) then a regional bus to Yakoruda (about 40-60 min); total travel time ~2.5-4 hours depending on connections. Typical cost Sofia → Yakoruda by public transport ~15-30 BGN combined.
Plovdiv Airport (PDV): Plovdiv is another option for some connections; from Plovdiv travel by bus or rail to Blagoevgrad then change for Yakoruda-this is usually slower than routing via Sofia.
Train: There is no direct national rail link to Yakoruda; the usual route is Sofia → Blagoevgrad by train then a regional bus to Yakoruda. Sofia → Blagoevgrad trains take about 1.5-2 hours with frequent daily services.
Bus: Direct buses run from Blagoevgrad to Yakoruda and are the principal way to reach the town from regional centres. Bus journeys from Blagoevgrad to Yakoruda take roughly 40-60 minutes; buy tickets at the station or from the driver.
