How to Get to Żabbar#
Żabbar is easily reached from Malta International Airport (MLA) by taxi or the island’s bus network. With no rail service on Malta, public buses and taxis are the standard ways to arrive and move between towns.
Malta International Airport (MLA): Malta’s single airport is the arrival point for Żabbar. From the airport you can take a taxi directly to Żabbar in about 15-25 minutes; typical taxi fares are around €15-€25 depending on time of day. You can also use the scheduled bus network via Valletta or direct routes (see below).
(No other passenger airports): Malta has a single main airport (MLA). All international arrivals into Malta go through MLA and continue by road or public bus to destinations around the island.
Train: Malta has no national rail network.
Bus: Malta Public Transport runs routes connecting the airport, Valletta and towns across the island. From Valletta or the airport you can catch buses to Żabbar (routes and direct services vary by timetable). A single journey fare is typically €2.00 (cheaper with a Tallinja card), and travel time from Valletta or the airport to Żabbar is about 15-30 minutes depending on route and stops.
How to Get Around Żabbar#
With no rail network on Malta, buses and taxis are the primary means of getting to and around Żabbar. For short trips the public bus is inexpensive; taxis are faster and better for door-to-door service.
- Public Bus (Malta Public Transport) (€2.00) - Buses connect Valletta, the airport and Żabbar; schedules and route numbers change seasonally so check the Transport Malta website or app. Single cash fares are around €2.00; using a Tallinja card reduces the per-ride cost and allows transfers.
- Taxi / Ride-hail (€15-€25) - Taxis offer direct, fast transfers from the airport and across the island-useful for early/late flights or when traveling with luggage. Expect fares from the airport to Żabbar around €15-€25 depending on traffic and time.
- Shared Shuttle / Private Transfer (€8-€25) - Shared airport shuttles and pre-booked private transfers are available and can be cost-effective for groups. They must be booked in advance and drop you closer to your accommodation than the main bus stops.
- Bicycle (€5-€15/day) - Malta is compact and many visitors cycle between nearby towns; however, roads can be narrow and busy. Use caution, wear a helmet and avoid cycling on high-traffic roads where possible.
- Walking - Żabbar’s town centre is compact and very walkable-ideal for exploring local churches, markets and streets on foot. Walking is the best way to absorb local character.

Shopping in Żabbar#
Shopping in Żabbar is mostly everyday retail: small supermarkets, bakeries, cafés and independent shops. It’s not a major shopping destination, so for boutique stores or larger malls you’ll need to go to Sliema, Valletta or the Malta International Airport area. Local festas and seasonal stalls may offer sweets and traditional Maltese goods during festival times.
Nightlife in Żabbar#
Nightlife is modest and community-focused. Evenings often feature local bars, cafés and band-club events-especially during festa season-rather than a wide range of clubs or live-music venues. For a busier nightlife scene, head to St. Julian’s, Sliema or Valletta.
