How to Get to Zeebrugge#
Zeebrugge is most conveniently reached via Bruges by train or De Lijn bus; Bruges itself is well connected to Brussels Airport and other Belgian cities. Local trains from Bruges to Zeebrugge are quick and frequent, making public transport practical for most visitors.
Ostend-Bruges International Airport (OST): The closest airport to Zeebrugge (about 20-25 km). From Ostend you can take a short taxi (≈20-30 minutes) or train/bus to Bruges and then local onward transport; taxi fares vary but are modest for the short distance.
Brussels Airport (BRU): A major international hub with fast train connections to Bruges (about 1h10; fares around €15-€25). From Bruges you continue to Zeebrugge by local train or De Lijn bus (see below).
Train: Brugge (Bruges) railway station is the main rail hub. Regular regional trains run from Bruges to Zeebrugge-Dorp (about 10-15 minutes) and to Zeebrugge-Strand in summer; single fares are typically around €3-€5.
Bus: De Lijn regional buses also connect Bruges with Zeebrugge (routes and frequency vary by season). Single bus fares in the Flanders region are commonly around €2.50-€4 and travel time from Bruges to Zeebrugge is approximately 25-35 minutes.
How to Get Around Zeebrugge#
Arrive at Bruges (train from Brussels Airport or Ghent) then take the short regional train or De Lijn bus to Zeebrugge. For cruise passengers check port shuttle arrangements; local cycling and walking are pleasant for short distances.
- Train (Bruges-Zeebrugge) (€3-€5) - Regional trains run from Bruges to Zeebrugge-Dorp in roughly 10-15 minutes; services are frequent enough for day trips and beach visits. Trains are the fastest public option and run year-round (summer also serves Zeebrugge-Strand).
- De Lijn bus (€2.5-€4) - De Lijn operates bus routes linking Bruges and Zeebrugge with stops around the port and beach areas. Buses are useful for direct connections where trains do not serve your stop; tickets can be bought on board or via the De Lijn app.
- Taxi / Transfer (€15-€30) - Taxis from Bruges or Ostend to Zeebrugge are quick and convenient if you have luggage or arrive off-schedule. Port transfers for cruise passengers are commonly organized by hotels and tour operators.
