How to Get to Zgharta#
Zgharta in northern Lebanon is accessed by road, usually via Tripoli or Beirut. Shared minibuses and private taxis are the common modes for the final leg; there is no functioning passenger rail service in Lebanon.
Beirut-Rafic Hariri International Airport (BEY): Zgharta is reached overland from Beirut. From BEY the drive to Zgharta (via the coastal highway through Tripoli) takes around 1.5-2 hours by private car or shared taxi depending on traffic.
Tripoli (regional hub): Tripoli is the nearest large city for road connections; many travelers change in Tripoli for short minibus routes onward to Zgharta.
Train: Lebanon has no regular passenger rail services, so rail is not an option to reach Zgharta.
Bus / Shared minibus: Shared minibuses and service taxis run from Tripoli and other northern towns to Zgharta; from Beirut take a bus or service taxi to Tripoli and change. Travel times from Tripoli are short (under an hour) and fares are inexpensive but vary with currency and operator.
How to Get Around Zgharta#
Expect to reach Zgharta by road from Tripoli or Beirut using shared minibuses or private taxis. For convenience rent a car or arrange a private transfer; the town itself is easy to explore on foot.
- Shared minibuses / service taxis (a few USD / local LBP equivalent) - These minibuses are the backbone of intercity travel in northern Lebanon and connect Tripoli with Zgharta frequently. They are cheap and relatively quick for short hops; schedules are informal so arrive early and ask locally.
- Private taxi (USD 20-60 (Tripoli→Zgharta, approximate)) - Private taxis offer a faster, more comfortable connection from Tripoli or Beirut to Zgharta and are useful with luggage or outside normal service hours. Agree the fare upfront or use metered taxis where available.
- Car hire (USD 30-70/day (small car)) - Renting a car gives flexibility to explore Zgharta and surrounding areas. Road conditions and signage vary; drive cautiously and plan routes beforehand.
- Local bus (low (local fare)) - Occasional local buses operate between smaller towns in the North Governorate and Zgharta; these are very low cost but may be slow and infrequent compared with service taxis.
- Walking - Zgharta town centre is compact and walkable for visiting markets and local services. Wear comfortable shoes for the hilly parts of the area.
